The Rut
An OffShoot outing to the Phoenix Park for the rutting season.
“The Phoenix Park was established as a Royal Deer Park in 1662 by James Butler, Duke of Ormond and fallow deer were imported from Great Britain by the Duke. Fallow deer have been in the Park ever since. Some of the deer living in the Park today are the descendants of those original deer brought over 350 years ago.
Today the herd is maintained at approximately 600 wild deer. Peak mating activity occurs in mid-October/ early November and is known as the Rut. During the rut a wide array of physical changes and ritual displays occur.
We advise the public to stay away from the bucks during the Rut. During rutting season, the bucks can become aggressive due to an increase of testosterone and competition for mates. The bucks become very dangerous and unpredictable during this season. By encouraging them to approach the public they have the potential to injury members of the public especially during rutting season.”

Old Copper Mines, Tankardstown, on Waterfords Copper Coast. Hydrogen is the fundamental element in the early universe. Helium is created in the fusion process that drives the stars. All other elements are created in the death of the stars when they go supernova. 70 x 30 sec exposures

Dublin mountains on fire this evening… Very similar to last night.. Difficult to tone down the blazing clouds… Will have another go in a few days to process and try and get a better balance. Shot with a 24 mm lens, but used 5 vertical frames to cover the scene.
Views to the south and Dublin Bay were all a joy to behold.

Chapter House Ceiling
The ceiling of the chapter house at York Minster. It was built in the late thirteenth century, during a comprehensive rebuilding and progressive replacement of the then-existing Norman Romanesque minster. It is of octagonal plan and is unusual in not having a central column to support the relatively large roof.

Back to a re-edit of one of my Svalbard pictures from 2016. While out in the zodiacs taking pictues of the glacier cliffs there was a tremendous icefall from part of one of the glaciers. Lucky enough to get some shots of it happening, and to be far enough away not to be affected!
